Opened just over a year ago, El Mocan has quickly become one of the most popular grilled meat and steak house restaurants in Maspalomas. The quality of the food and the atmosphere on location are just some of the reasons for this success.
El Mocan by Relax was founded by two business partners, Roberto and Daniel, who hail from Las Palmas and have been friends for many years. Roberto is the owner, and Daniel handles all administrative and financial matters, including payments and social media.
Both began their adventure in the tourism business in the south of Gran Canaria in 1999 with a bar, specifically a rock music bar, the Relax Rock Pub, in the Kasbah Shopping Center, a business that fortunately is still running. Later, in June 2020, they opened Relax Beach Club, right on San Agustin beach, which is highly recommended for its stunning views and delicious menu. Finally, their latest addition is El Mocan by Relax, opened in November 2023, with a fantastic team dedicated to ensuring the customers have the best possible experience during their meal.
El Mocan restaurant is primarily a wood and charcoal grill with a distinctly Argentinian flavour. Roberto and Daniel take great pride in sourcing the finest ingredients and cooking them traditionally, in an open kitchen, right in front of their customers. This allows them to witness the entire cooking process, adding an extra dimension to their dining experience. Nearly everything is cooked over a wood or charcoal grill, or in an artisanal oven, ensuring authentic flavours.
At El Mocan, the menu is a labor of love, and the cook is incredibly proud of every dish. From the homemade burger, made with the same high-quality meat as their steaks, to the melt-in-your-mouth Canarian pork ribs, there's something for everyone. Don't miss the Iberian secret pizza and the succulent Basque beef steak ; they said they are really special. And why not the grilled octopus, the Galician beef rib, or the Basque cow cutlet ? They also have some vegetarian dishes, like the vegan burgers and the "Green Wave Empanada", filled with stir-fried spinach and tofu seasoned with curcuma and black salt, a speciality and exclusivity of the house !
The restaurant offers a big inside room decorated in a tavern style with large windows to enjoy the view outside and a terrace on the front, near the entrance. It has been called "El Mocán" as a tribute to this beautiful and iconic tree that abounds in several of the Canary Islands. And the word "By Relax" is a reference to the name of the place where it all began 25 years ago. El Mocan restaurant is located in the Maspalomas Campo Internacional, just next to the Ocean Park, and not far from the Yumbo Centre and the Avenida de Tirajana. They chose this place because they needed a spacious venue with high ceilings that was centrally located and had ample parking, which perfectly suited their vision for this project. So you can park your car easily on-site but you can also come by bus, a nice walking, or with a short taxi ride.
